Manning Cups competition returned to Loughrea Athletic Club grounds at Bushfield

Writing on their Facebook page, Loughrea Athletic Club welcomed the return of the Manning Cups competition:

The return of the Manning Cups competition for the bigger schools was held in Loughrea AC today for the first time in three years. It was a spectacle with the boys and girls from the area back representing their school in athletics events. Each school selected an athlete to represent their school in sprints, relays, middle distance, shot put, long jump and hurdles with points awarded to each schools athletes based in the position they finished. It was a very exciting evening but the results are as follows:

Girls results :

1. St Itas N.S.

2. Leitrim N.S.

3. Bullaun N.S.

Boys results:

1. St. Brendan’s Boys N.S. Loughrea

2. St. Brendan’s N.S. Portumna

3. Bullaun N.S.

Huge thanks to all the officials and stewards and schools for making it such a special evening of fun and the rain held off till the last five minutes. Many thanks to the Manning family for sponsoring the events annually and special thanks to Monica Manning for attending the event and presenting the winners prizes. Tomorrow it’s the turn of the smaller schools in the area and we get to do it all over again.
