Loughrea Gears Up for County Hurling Final Showdown

In a town awash with Blue and Gold flags, anticipation fills the air as Loughrea prepares for an epic face-off in the upcoming County Hurling Final. On Sunday, 10 November, at Kenny Park in Athenry, all eyes will be on the 2024 Brooks County Senior Hurling Final, where Loughrea Hurling Club will go head-to-head with Cappatagle Hurling Club.

This marks Loughrea’s 13th appearance in the County Final, a stage they last reached in 2022, where they narrowly lost to St Thomas after a tense replay. Sunday offers Loughrea a shot at their first County Senior Hurling title since 2006. The club boasts two championships to date, their inaugural victory in 1941 over The Army, followed by a hard-fought win against Portumna in 2006.

Standing in their way is Cappatagle, who enter the final with fierce determination, having eliminated reigning All-Ireland Club Champions St Thomas in the semi-finals. This is Cappatagle’s debut in a Senior Final, a historic moment since their formation in 1885, and they are eager to claim their first Senior Championship title.

As the town rallies behind its team, the stage is set for an unforgettable battle this Sunday.
