Long Point, Loughrea, Outdoor Amenity Enhancement Project – Public Consultation

The Long Point, located on the shore of Loughrea lake, is one of Ireland’s most popular and attractive lakeside bathing and amenity locations, and the clear waters and shore amenities are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status, and Galway County Council maintains a lifeguard service during the summer bathing season.

A Design Team led by Helena McElmeel Architects are preparing ‘The Long Point Outdoor Amenity Enhancement Project’ in partnership with Galway County Council, and a Public Consultation event will be held on Wednesday 25th January at Loughrea Library. Members of the Design Team will be available to hear the views and ideas of the public between 4pm and 7pm, and everyone is invited to participate in an online survey to assist in ensuring that their needs are considered in the enhancement proposals.

The survey can be accessed online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LongPointEnhancementProject before Thursday, 2 February.

A children’s art competition has been organised through local schools to get children involved by submitting an art / poetry / prose on their vision for the future of Long Point in postcard size. The Design Team look forward to receiving some imaginative entries. Entries will be exhibited at Loughrea Library, and winners will be announced at the Public Consultation event.
