€5.6 Million for Loughrea’s Town Hall Restoration Project

€5.6 Million for Loughrea’s Town Hall Restoration Project

Loughrea Arts Recreation & Culture (LARC) announced on their Facebook page a major funding milestone for the Loughrea Town Hall restoration project. Thanks to a €2.6 million top-up from the Rural Regeneration Funding Body – adding to the initial €1.6 million granted in 2019 – the total investment now stands at €5.6 million. This grant is contingent on a contribution from Galway County Council, anticipated to be €1.4 million.

The funding will enable essential restoration, preservation, and modernisation of the historic Barrack Street landmark, transforming it into a cultural and enterprise hub for East Galway. Planned enhancements include a 150-seat ground-floor theatre to serve the growing arts community, along with a first-floor innovation and enterprise space—all while preserving the building’s architectural heritage.

LARC remains committed to overseeing the project’s development to ensure it aligns with the community’s vision and will continue to provide updates as work progresses. This funding secures the Town Hall’s future as a cultural cornerstone for generations to come.
