Draft Loughrea Local Area Plan 2024-2030 prompts Loughrea Sports Centre petition

Following the announcement by Galway County Council that the public consultation on the Draft Loughrea Local Area Plan 2024-2030 is now open, there’s a growing concern about the insufficient focus on sports facilities.

Those involved feel Loughrea deserves a Local Area Plan that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of its residents. In an interview on Galway Bay FM, Secretary of Loughrea GAA club, Sinéad Kelly, highlighted the oversight in the Draft Loughrea Local Area Plan. She emphasised the urgent need for rectification, underlining the importance of sports facilities in our town.

Subsequently, Cllr. Shane Curley created an online petition stating ‘we need to zone land for a new sports centre in Loughrea, which is done through the Local Area Plan. If you want this to happen, sign this petition to show your councillors how badly we need this.’

The Draft Local Area Plan along with the reports will be on public display and may be inspected from Friday 24th November 2023 to Monday 15th January 2024 (excluding weekends and public holidays) at the following locations:

* Loughrea Library, Church Street, Loughrea H62 EV61 (Tuesday/Thursday/Friday 10.30am – 1.00 pm & 2.00pm – 6.00 pm; Wednesday 10.30 am – 1.00 pm & 2.00 pm – 7.00 pm; Saturday 10.30 am – 1.00 pm & 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm; (closed Sunday & Monday)

* Loughrea Area Office, Barrack Street, Loughrea H62 K065 (Monday -Friday 9.00am -1.00pm & 2.00pm – 5.00pm)

* Planning Office, Áras an Chontae, Prospect Hill, Galway H91 H6KX (Monday – Friday 9am-4pm)
