Culture Night Loughrea: Oíche Airneáin leis Gaeilge Locha Riach

Beidh an tOllamh Lillis Ó Laoire (Ollscoil na Gaillimhe) agus an ceoltóir aitheanta Róisín Seoighe linn i mbliana chun ceiliúradh dátheangach a dhéanamh ar amhránaíocht ar an sean-nós, an ceol traidisiúnta, agus ár gcultúr Gaelach mar chuid de mhórcheiliúradh Oíche Chultúir, 2023.

Is amhránaí aitheanta as Tír Chonall ó dhúchas é Lillis a bhuaigh Corn Uí Riada ag Oireachtas na Samhna sa mbliain 1994. Ní hamháin é sin ach tá clú agus cáil bainte amach ag Lillis thar na blianta mar bhéaloideasóir, mar oideoir, mar thaighdeoir, agus mar scríbhneoir chomh maith.

Is ceoltóir, cumadóir, amhránaí agus damhsóir í Róisín Seoighe as Conamara i gContae na Gaillimhe. Thosaigh Róisín amach sa saol mar amhránaí ar an sean nós agus cloistear gnéithe den stíl amhránaíochta seo sna seánraí difriúla dá cuid ceoil fós. Tá sé mar aidhm ag Róisín stíleanna difriúla ceoil a mheascadh le chéile ar bhealach nach bhfuil cloiste riamh cheana, go háirithe as Gaeilge.

Tugann Gaeilge Locha Riach cuireadh daoibh uilig a bheith linn don oíche fhíorspeisialta seo i Leabharlann Bhaile Locha Riach.

Professor Lillis Ó Laoire (University of Galway) and well-known musician Róisín Seoighe will be with us this year for a bilingual celebration of sean-nós singing, traditional music, and our Gaelic culture as part of Culture Night, 2023.

Lillis is a well-known singer originally from Donegal who won the sean-nós world’s biggest prize, the Corn Uí Riada, at the 1994 Oireachtas na Samhna. Not only is Lillis well known for his singing, but he has made a name for himself over the years as a folklorist, educator, researcher, and writer also.

Róisín Seoighe is a musician, composer, singer, and dancer from Connemara in County Galway. Róisín started her musical career as a sean-nós singer and traits of sean-nós singing can still be heard in the various genres of her music. It is Róisín’s aim to mix different styles of music together in a way that has never been heard before, particularly in Irish.

Gaeilge Locha Riach invites you all along to Loughrea Library to be with us on a very special night.
