Citylink announce additional Loughrea to Galway City departures

Adding additional departure times from Loughrea to Galway City, from Monday, 24 January 2022, Citylink will commence 07:25 and 08:10 services departing from Beattys Jewellers, Main Street, Loughrea direct into Galway City.

Welcoming this news, Ciaran Cannon posting on his Facebook page said:

‘Today we have seen an announcement by Citylink that it is to expand its existing bus service from Loughrea and introduce a completely new service from Kilrickle. We will see the provision of two new early morning services from Loughrea to Galway city departing at 7.25am and 8.10am on weekdays, catering for workers and students, and bringing the total number of daily departures from Loughrea to 10. In addition, a completely new service from Kilrickle will provide 8 daily departures to Galway city and another 8 departures to Dublin city. The new services will commence on this Monday January 24th and will be welcomed by all of us who were deeply disappointed to see the cancellation of the Bus Eireann X20 service on this route last July.

This announcement by Citylink is most welcome and is reflective of the significant demand for additional services in Loughrea and Kilrickle. I have been engaging with Citylink and the National Transport Authority since last July to make the case for these additional services. Management at Citylink were exceptionally proactive in planning for the new services, and the National Transport Authority responded by granting the necessary licences. I’m deeply grateful to Citylink for stepping in here and providing badly needed services and I would encourage people to use them as often as possible. If our local bus services are used extensively, they remain viable, and Citylink and other providers are always ready to create even more services if they see a demand. At peak times, you can travel on a bus from Main Street Loughrea to Galway city centre in 45 mins, much quicker than by car, and your doing something positive for a more sustainable Galway.

I’m particularly pleased about the new service in Kilrickle. This is a burgeoning village with a lot of locals working and studying in Galway city. From Monday onwards we will have 8 departures to Galway city and Dublin city every day. Members of the local community were devastated when Bus Eireann cancelled all of their services and its wonderful to see this East Galway village being put back on the map with reliable public transport provision.’
