Loughrea based Hand in Hand Charity Celebrates Double Victory at National Lottery Good Causes Awards

Hand in Hand, a Loughrea-based charity dedicated to supporting families of young people with cancer, has been honoured with two top awards at the National Lottery Good Causes Awards 2024. The charity took home the title of both Health & Wellbeing category winner and Overall Good Cause of the Year for 2024, in recognition of its outstanding commitment to helping families during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Hand in Hand provides vital practical support to families of children undergoing cancer treatment, relieving them of everyday responsibilities such as household cleaning, grocery shopping, and sibling care. This allows parents to fully focus on their child’s health and wellbeing without the added stress of daily tasks.

Thanks to National Lottery Good Causes funding, (securing a total of €35,000 in prize funding) the charity is able to cover essential services such as household cleaning and meal deliveries for families across Ireland. These services are particularly important for families of children with cancer, as maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is crucial to protecting children with weakened immune systems and reducing the risk of infections or complications.

Guided by its mission to ‘look after the ordinary while parents look after the extraordinary,’ Hand in Hand has become an invaluable lifeline for families facing the challenges of childhood cancer.
