Long Point Loughrea awarded €50,000 under the 2021 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme
On Monday, 29 November, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, announced €15.5 million in funding for 84 outdoor adventure projects funded under Project Development Measure of the 2021 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS). Among the projects being funded, Loughrea was awarded €50,000, for ‘preparatory planning and design works for The Long Point’.
Cllr. Shane Curley announced on his Facebook page that the funding will be used to go to design phase to:
- Upgrade swimming facilities, including improved access to lake for swimmers
- Demolish the current changing facilities and design a state-of-the-art changing facility.
- Improve parking facilities at the lake.
